Lifelong Wellness: A reflection on the lessons learned in HLAC 1096
One of the most interesting connections made between this class and another is how clearly some of the concepts learned in biology play a role on some of the concepts covered in Fitness for Life. For example, my understanding of aerobic vs anaerobic exercise was bolstered by my understanding of the process of cellular respiration. I also believe that maintaining the healthy habits taught in this course can have a significant effect on performance in other college courses, especially considering the impact that our physical health has on our mental well being.
To be completely honest, I originally approached this class as something that would not be very worth my time and would likely be easy to pass. However, the opportunity for group discussion as well as the concepts taught in the class and in the book helped me understand that this course contained a number of lessons I will carry with me throughout my life. I also believe that reading fitness advice from a textbook backed with science as opposed to from a random internet site was very beneficial for me as much of the advice in the world surrounding health and fitness is either not quite accurate or has absolutely no basis in fact. It was refreshing to have a reliable source of health information.
